We are blessed to live among the oldest and most ecologically diverse mountains in the world. From first nations to the people who settled and found refuge here, the depth and diversity of central Appalachian culture is a rich context for contributing to possibilities for LGBTQIA+ people to either stay or move to this area. Together, we will thrive in connection with this incredible flora, fauna and geography, looking for the lessons of Love and God in each one. “God loves things by becoming them.” - Richard Rohr
We invite the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Love flowing through all of life, to come among us any way Spirit would like to do so. We believe that we and Creation are always growing, changing, diversifying, dying and being born anew with a constant Love holding us all. Dynamic and graceful, surprising and truthful, we claim the full right to our chosen spiritual paths in body, mind and spirit, and reach out to find and support one another in doing so. We are guided by the teaching, “There is no fear in Love, but perfect Love casts out all fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in Love” 1 John 4:18. We do not believe that a healthy spirituality can be rooted in fear.
We believe in the power of loving and supportive community connections to reclaim, heal, nurture, and build up people and all of creation that have been marginalized, misused or rejected. We believe that the Love that Christ taught is most alive and potent in the community of all beings, including all of us who are "queerfully and wonderfully made!” We come as we are, believing as we do or don’t, and trust a loving Spirit to guide us to being part of a common good together. Everyone is truly welcome, however you may name yourself or your path.
In honor of Pride, the Mountain Spirit Singers perform a special version of 'Down in the River to Pray'.
"Out in the Rainbow to Pray" was performed at Mountain Spirit Metropolitan Community Church in Asheville, NC

For members of the LGBTQ+ community, stepping inside a church can be traumatic because of past experiences. But the right church can help queer community to reconnect to their spirituality in a safe, nurturing way.
